Our Gorgeous Halloween Costume Contest Winner
Big congratulations to sweet little Abigail, the winner of our Halloween costume contest! How cute does she look in her chick costume?? We couldn't help but melt as soon as we saw her, and then we were further moved when we heard that she has been through a lot in her short life, and was actually recovering from heart surgery when this photo was taken. Here are a few words from her mom Trisha:
"Thanks so much for your kind gift of the Baby Box! It was fun to see all the 'likes' on Abigail's picture with her chick outfit! She was thrilled when the hospital volunteer brought her the outfit to wear on Oct. 31st. Even though she wasn't feeling the greatest in that hospital bed, she sported that outfit with a big, bright smile!
We have been through a rollercoaster journey since Abigail's open heart surgery on Sept. 17, 2014. What was expected to be a 7-10 day hospital stay at Sick Kids Hospital in Ontario ended up being 6 weeks due to multiple complications. It has been almost a week now that we have been home and she is doing quite well. Throughout all these weeks, we have continued to tell ourselves that we will not be given more than we can handle OR we will be given strength to get through whatever may come our way.
Abigail has Down Syndrome, which has opened up a whole new world for our family....a wonderfully blessed one! We feel so lucky to be given her and will do our best at bringing her up like any other child.
During these 6 weeks of hospital life, our 5 other children were at home with a babysitter and dad (on and off between hospital and work), which was not very easy on them. The changes were overwhelming, and the time seemed to go much too long for them. We are all SO happy to be together as a family again and pray it continues this way! Tomorrow we will get Abigail's heart checked again by her cardiologist with an echo and hope all is well. Since she has moderate leakage of one valve, she will be followed by her doctors for her lifetime.
Throughout this journey, we have been surrounded by the support of family, friends, acquaintances and even people we have never met! We have been so blessed! If you would like to follow Abigail's journey, we are on Facebook at Believe in Down Syndrome.
Thanks so much for what you do, and I wish you all the best!"
