Do you have a small child or a baby at home? If that is the case you will need to baby proof your home and your cleaning techniques if you want your little one to be safe and sound. The following examples will point out ways to have cleaning done right while at the same time making it safe for your baby or child:
If you are expecting or you already have a baby in the house, then you should stock up on safe cleaning products so you won’t have to look for such as time goes by. Most but not all commercial cleaners will contain harsh and toxic chemicals that are best avoided when possible as they can be pretty harmful to kids and babies. These chemicals may not always be the active ingredients inside them, but they will also include colors, preserving agents and fragrances that could prove hazardous to young children and they must be avoided at all costs, alongside potential airway and eye irritation as well as other side effects.
What can you do to ensure your home will be a safe environment with almost zero toxicity in the process? Well for starters you will need to ensure your home is clear and safe from commercial products made for cleaning, keeping them away from curious kids and their little hands. It would likely be a good idea to place them somewhere high where they will be out of reach or to use cabinet locks on the lower parts of your furniture pieces. This will allow you to deal with cleaning without having to worry about the details. If you absolutely have to mop the floors using a toxic product, keep in mind that the residue will not really go away. Crawling babies and toddlers will likely end up swallowing the toxins or they will end up in their eyes, so you would do well to avoid this at all costs by using nontoxic solutions such as the following:
- Baking soda and water can be a great combo if you turn them into a nice, thick paste you can use to get rid of residue and grime on your sink and shower. Cleaning with them can be done by also just using baking soda on a damp sponge for most surfaces of the non-porous variety.
- If you want to handle cleaning your toilet bowl, then you will need to use baking soda around its inside and to work on scrubbing the area. Add a half cup of white vinegar and you can let that sit out for a few minutes to have better results. You should avoid going too far with the baking soda as you may end up with a fizzy reaction instead. Scrub and flush and you will have a job well done.
- To make better cleaning possible through vinegar and baking soda you should use it for more cleaning applications as well. The chemical reaction between both can easily loosen up dirt and other contaminants from a surface you want to clean, as well as helping with the unclogging of some drains.
- If you want to work on cleaning baby toys, trays and more you should dilute a mix of white vinegar and water in equal quantities so you can use it with a spray bottle. Let the solution stay on the object for about ten minutes or so and then use a damp sponge to wipe it clean. The vinegar will help clean up the germs and its smell will disappear in about an hour or so.
